What Is Your Ministry?

This is a great year of anticipation and excitement! While last year was a time of preparation and pruning for my life, I believe this is my year for ministry, particularly in writing and evangelism. The “Love Tips” section will demonstrate the passion I have for sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

What about you? When you think of the word, “ministry” what comes to mind? Could it be a man or woman who stands in the pulpit on Sundays preaching the Word of God, or could it be a stay-at-home mother who is teaching her toddler how to read?

Contrary to popular belief, both of these individuals are ministers, but they are called in different capacities to serve. Ministry is done in all areas of our lives: the home, work, church, and anywhere else God calls us to be. We can’t separate any of these things because everything we do as Christians is about honoring and worshipping God.

What is required to do ministry God’s way? First, we must realize that there are no “big” people or “little” people in ministry: only obedient and disobedient. God is not concerned about whom we serve, but how we serve. For instance, “When you are asked to serve, do you readily accept God’s call or do you complain about the task that God has given you?”

What is God looking for in a servant? One quality God looks for is humility. We exhibit this virtue by accepting whatever task God chooses for our lives. We must prepare ourselves based on the opportunities that God presents to us. Remember, even the “little tasks,” such as cleaning your home or being on time for work, for example, get us ready for the “greater things.”

Our featured author, Stacy Adams is a great example of humility. She will share with us her experiences in writing her most recent book, Nothing But The Right Thing.

Lately, I’ve noticed God sending the right people and resources to help me progress in my ministry. As God takes you to various places on your Christian journey, you will see a showcase of people who are where we are striving to be. While many of these people will take time from their schedules to point us in the direction of God’s path, we must be careful not to compare ourselves to them. This is unhealthy, and it is a distraction from going where God is trying to take you. Remember that God will give you the necessary resources and tools you need to be unique to serve Him. In fact, if becoming a writer is your goal, the “Write On” section will help you to jumpstart your writing career.

Be passionate and bold about God’s calling without becoming arrogant. What do I mean? While we are not to brag, we should be proud and grateful that God has called us to do a great work for Him. Keep in mind that anything you do for God is great!

Do you really know where you’re called to minister? If not, I recommend three things: PRAY, PRAY, and PRAY! Recognize that God has a plan for you, but He wants you to do it His way. Be persistent in pursuing wisdom by educating yourself, and then obeying when God tells you to do something.

Also, understand that ministry is not always easy. It comes with its share of tribulations, challenges, and enemies. Nevertheless, Jesus tells us to be of good cheer because He is in control and He will give you the grace to continue, despite the circumstances.

God is looking for people to be ministers, but His greatest goal is for us to become intimate with Him and be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. As you get to know God, He will reveal His plan for ministry in your life. Furthermore, in pursuing God, you will see that it’s not about serving yourself, but it’s about serving others and worshipping Him! If you keep this in mind, you will find the ultimate satisfaction because you are pleasing to God.
